SHEPHERDS VOICE – January 2024

JEHOVAH MEPHALTI

God Our Deliverer

”If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it,

and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.”

Daniel 3:17

The background to the above verse is that Daniel’s friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, refuse to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar. The King’s aides inform him that these three Jews refuse to worship him. Nebuchadnezzar is furious and threatens Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego them with an ultimatum, that if they do not worship him they would be thrown into a blazing furnace, from which no god could rescue them (Dan3:15).  Confident in their God’s power to save, they announce they would rather trust Him and die than bow to Nebuchadnezzar and live.

They knew only one God and His name as ‘LORD, our Deliverer’ because of which they were able to overcome any situation.

This new year believe that the God who delivers is with you from this time forth. God promises that His presence will be with each of us and His mighty hands of deliverance will lead us.  While we face days of spiritual and worldly confusions, our God has promised that He will not leave us orphans but will deliver us. When you believe God is with you in the furnace, the flames will not touch you.

Psalms 18:2 “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalms 18 exalts God as the Sovereign Savior. It was written by David when he was delivered from his enemies.

God delivered His children from the hands of Pharaoh by raising Moses and utterly destroyed Egypt.

Apostle Paul was convinced he would die but trusted in God who raises the dead and said in (2Cor1:10) “who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us,”

Psalms18:16 “He reached down from heaven and rescued me; He drew me out of many waters.”

May we too be convinced of God who can deliver us from situations that are beyond our imagination.  He will still deliver us. Even if you do not see a way, believe that God will stretch out His hands and draw you out of the many waters.

How will you see the hands of God?

Micah 2:13 “The one who breaks open will come up before them; They will break out, Pass through the gate, And go out by it; Their king will pass before them, With the LORD at their head.”

Deut 33:27 “The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ‘Destroy!’”

God almighty who breaks open goes before His people.  The eternal God is your refuge and He will thrust out the enemy before you. You may not see it with your eyes but the Bible says in Luke 21:18 that not a hair of yours will be lost.  God fights the spiritual battle for you and commands you to conquer.  Our God has already destroyed all powers of evil therefore you will see the new ways God has opened for you. Josh10:25 relates how Joshua treated the five kings after he won the battle against them. He got the five kings to lie on the floor, face down, and told his army commanders to place their feet on the necks of the kings. Many years before God had told the serpent that the offspring of the woman ‘will strike your head.’ ‘My people will crush your head’. Now the people of God stand with their feet on the neck of the enemy.

God has already destroyed the enemy in the spiritual realm and our duty now is to claim its destruction in faith and see the deliverance of God before us.

God’s deliverance is seen in 2 ways.

  1. Rom 11:26 “And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;”

The days ahead will be times of spiritual sacrifice. God knows the troubled times we may face but God will deliver us and affirm our faith in Him. We need to turn away from any ungodliness and lean onto God. The church should desire to grow spiritually in order to strengthen those who are weak in faith. Jesus said that He came that we may have life and life in abundance (Jn10:10).  Therefore, may this year be a year of spiritual victories in each of your lives.  Your relationship with God will elevate you to spiritual heights.  As His word says  in Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

  1. Gal 1:4 “Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,”

Psalms 18:17 “He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.”

David here accepts that his enemies were too mighty but God rescued him. God chose us to rescue us from those mightier than us.

Psalms 18:29 “With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.”

God our Deliverer goes ahead of us. He will destroy every adverse situation before us and will deliver us.

God’s promises are for the following 3 kinds of people

  1. Be determined to serve God

Dan3:17 confirms that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had served God and could confidently say that they would be delivered from the fiery furnace.

Daniel’s faith in God did not alter and he continued to worship only the living God in spite of the king’s decree and was thrown into the lion’s den as punishment.  We read in Dan 6:18-24 that King Darius was displeased and lost sleep when Daniel had to be punished because of his decree. He hastens to the cave to check if the God whom Daniel continually serves was able to deliver him from the lions.

  1. If you stand with Jesus, Jesus will stand with you.

2Tim4:16 & 17 “At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them!  But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, …”

  1. Depend on God and not on your wisdom.

2Kings 19:15-16 “Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said: “O LORD God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God.”

Why does God deliver us?

2 Kings 19:19 “Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone.”

God our Deliverer delivers us that the world may see and exalt that there is no God like ours.

May this year be a year of experiencing God’s deliverance in your lives and declare that there is no God like Him in this world. Ask God to enable you to serve Him continually.  Lean on to Him and experience His deliverance for the glory of His name.

May the year 2024 be a year of experiencing God’s deliverance in each of your lives.
